I had some welcomed relaxy time on Saturday. The kids were with the grandparents and my husband made himself scarce (to his shop outside!). I had the whole setup: my fav cozy socks, blanket and pillow, AND the TV all to myself. I decided to catch up on the binge-worthy show Bridgerton on Netflix. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a cross between Gossip Girl and any PBS period piece. I LOVE IT! It has the dramathe intriguethe formalities, and beautiful costumes and scenery. I highly suggest you check it out!

Needless to say, I enjoyed the couple of hours alone on the couch. I haven’t finished it yet, so no spoilers please! 😉

Watching this show got me thinking, we should treat our marketing in general with a little bit of drama and intrigue and some formality.

Like it or not, our audience is drawn to drama and storytelling. It captures us and we want to know more. That doesn’t mean you need to tell every nitty gritty detail of your life on social media or in your email broadcasts. But, you need to have some outside excitement other than just facts and ‘how-tos’.

Think of day-to-day happenings in your life that you can use and relate it back to a teachable moment (like this one!).

On the flip side, all drama and no explanations and business tips (formalities) won’t get you anywhere either. You need solve a problem and show what you can offer no matter what industry you’re in: done for you service provider, coach, e-commerce, etc.

So the takeaway? Storytelling, a bit of drama and a LOT of tips, tricks and problem solving are key ingredients for your marketing whether it’s social media, blogging and/or an email.

Don’t overcomplicate – run with an idea or a tip and you’ve got a couple of pieces of content ready and waiting to share with your audience!
