Catastrophy spirals are the WORST…amiright?

Picture this: your client just told you that something isn’t right in the project you’re working on…and it’s going to affect the whole [funnel, project, sequence, conversation, ROI, upcoming due date, etc] and your brain goes off on what I call an ADHD ‘catastrophy spiral’

  • you see the WHOLE thing falling apart in your mind
  • you start playing the ‘what if’ game of what could go wrong
  • your anxiety skyrockets and you go into freakout mode
  • your client isn’t going to want to work with you anymore because…xyz
  • you’re paralyzed now because nothing you could do could possibly fix the issue

Take a deep breath with me…in…out….Grab your fidgeter – squishy, pencil, blocks, whatever you like to hold that calms you when working.

Now grab a piece of paper or pull up a blank google doc:

  1. write/type out what the problem is
  2. what ACTIONABLE steps you can take to help or completely fix it?
  3. depending on the type of project – list out any sub-areas that you’ll need to work in
  4. take a deep breath again
  5. grab your timer – start working on ONE step at a time
  6. don’t think ahead to the other steps – ONE AT A TIME

Pausing to fully take in the issue at hand, evaluating and making a checklist of actionable steps to fix the problem, will help prevent your brain from a ‘catastrophe spiral’.
