When it comes to ADHD business owners, there are two things that come up for us: 1. we’re creative and 2. we’re always on the go sometimes physically, sometimes mentally. In order to harness that creativity and energy, you need a recipe for success.
We all have goals in mind for our business. But how do we take one goal and move it to an actionable plan with the lowest amount of overwhelm?
1. Choose only ONE goal. I know, I know, sometimes our brains are flowing with ALL the goals at once, but write them down and pick just one. Write an “I will, I want, I can, etc” statement with that goal. Example: “I want to create more efficiency within my business with a simple and effective business system within 90 days”. Whatever it is, make sure it’s achievable and measurable for your business.
2. Brainstorm: write or type every single idea and thought that comes to mind with that set goal. Don’t worry if it seems weird or crazy, get it out of your head already. Then, group similar ideas together and add them to keep and discard piles.
3. Take those ideas, highlight the ones that work, and start creating an ‘action outline‘ that will help you reach your goal….one step at a time. Don’t try to do everything at once; just pick one action piece and go for it.
4. Measure your results and adjust where necessary. Remind yourself that you’ve taken action and changing your plan is ok.
5. CELEBRATE the success of creating and implementing a goal regardless of the measurable outcome. It’s never a failure if you didn’t reach the total goal, only if you didn’t take action at all.
These tips are just the beginning and a good place to start if you want to be more productive and achieve your goals. Follow these steps, and you’ll be well on your way to achieving your goals as an ADHD business owner. And who knows? You may just come up with the next big idea in the process.
So what are you waiting for? Start brainstorming and get to work!
